Bwahahaha… It’s Alive
Sunday, February 22nd, 2009Today I replaced the Achille’s Heel of the Nintendo Entertainment System, the 72-pin connector that the cartridge plugs into. There are some great instructions online, and there are quite a few places where you can buy the replacement part.
All in all, it cost me less than $10 and took less than a half hour. (Sans puppy distractions, I probably could have done it in fifteen minutes.) I went from blinking power light and no picture to NES goodness.
I celebrated first with Burgertime, then with The Legend of Zelda (gold cartridge, baby). Later tonight I’ll rock out some SMB3.
I have an emulator on my computer, and a few NES games downloaded on the Virtual Console for the Wii. Nothing beats the original, though.
