Robots Will Be Our Superiors

Today I replaced the Achille’s Heel of the Nintendo Entertainment System, the 72-pin connector that the cartridge plugs into.  There are some great instructions online, and there are quite a few places where you can buy the replacement part.

All in all, it cost me less than $10 and took less than a half hour.  (Sans puppy distractions, I probably could have done it in fifteen minutes.)  I went from blinking power light and no picture to NES goodness.

I celebrated first with Burgertime, then with The Legend of Zelda (gold cartridge, baby).  Later tonight I’ll rock out some SMB3.

I have an emulator on my computer, and a few NES games downloaded on the Virtual Console for the Wii.  Nothing beats the original, though.

Back Off Man, I’m a Scientist

I’ve noticed that the curly-cue graphic has become omnipresent in modern design, making it’s way from band posters and websites to the backs of HP computers. I figger there’s enough of it out there, so it was time to try something new.

I’m trying a new theme, and I’ve always been a fan of white text on dark backgrounds. This is one of the most downloaded theme packs from the WordPress site.

The less than gracious part of me believes that there’s a special circle in hell for people that write spam-bot software.  I just installed a plugin that should drastically reduce the amount of comment-spamming.  We’ll see how it works.
